Squid Game Season 2 Release Date

Squid Game season 2’s release date has not yet been officially announced, but according to Hwang Dong-hyuk’s statement to Deadline, he is “targeting a Halloween 2024 launch.”

“It took 12 years to bring the first season of Squid Game to life last year. But it took 12 days for Squid Game to become the most popular Netflix series ever.  As the writer, director and producer of Squid Game a huge shout out to fans around the world. Thank you for watching and loving our show.”

Hwang Dong-hyuk addressed the crowd at Netflix’s TUDUM event and said: “I’d like to thank all the Netflix fans around the world again for loving Squid Game. Please look forward to season two, which will be filled with all-new stories.”

Squid Game Season 2 Plot

Oh Il-Nam (Player 001), a seemingly harmless elderly man, was revealed to be the mastermind behind the games at the end of the first season, and he wasn’t truly killed in the events of episode 6. In the season finale, Seong Gi-hun (Player 456) approached him and learned that he had devised the games to amuse bored ultra-rich people like himself by allowing them to wager on who would survive. He participated in the games for sentimental reasons, it was also disclosed.

Seong Gi-hun departs to catch a jet to visit his daughter while Oh Il-Nam passes away from his brain tumour. On his approach to the airport, however, he runs across the same man who lured him into the games, and he grabs the card from a defenceless bystander who is going to be forced to participate. He calls the number, decides against boarding the aircraft, and returns to the city, presumably to get revenge on the game’s designers.

There’s clearly an opportunity for more drama after that cliffhanger, and Hwang Dong-hyuk has indicated that a second season may concentrate on Oh Il- Nam’s past and the early stages of the deadly games.

He said: “Oh Il-nam is a man of huge success from nothing. As we see from the phrase ‘the money man’ he is a veiled big shot in the financial industry.

“It seems, however, the way how he yearns for the happy moments of his past shows that he has lost many things including his family and his humanity at the cost of success. If there will be a season two, we might reveal a little more about his past story.”

 Squid Game Season 2 Cast

Given a large number of on-screen deaths, it’s doubtful that many of the people we got to know in season 1 will return. However, if they decide to concentrate on Oh Il-Nam, we will likely see a younger version of him rather than O Yeong-Su reprising her part.

Hwang recently announced the reappearance of two characters in an interview with Deadline. The website showed that in their coverage that “fan favourite Gi-hun will return along with the shadowy Front Man, played by Lee Byung-hun.”
