Kyle MacLachlan has expressed interest in returning as Dr. Trey MacDougal in And Just Like That, the sequel to Sex and the City. His remarks come after actress Kristin Davis revealed that a storyline featuring Trey was considered but ultimately scrapped.
In a conversation with People on March 10, MacLachlan, 66, responded to Davis’ comments from her Are You a Charlotte? podcast episode on March 6, where she referred to Trey as Charlotte York-Goldenblatt’s “best match.” The actor reacted warmly, saying, “That’s so sweet of her… I thought I was her perfect match, and then they brought in somebody else. It was sad.”
MacLachlan confirmed that the show’s creators had reached out about a possible return but noted that the proposed storyline did not fully meet his expectations. “I think it would be really fun to return, yeah, I do,” he said. “They had reached out. I just felt that the idea that they had—I wanted a little bit more to it. I wanted the relationship that we had to be a little deeper.” He added that he remains open to a future opportunity, saying, “Maybe they’ll come back with another idea. I’d be game.”
Davis, 60, confirmed on her podcast that MacLachlan declined a previous offer, suggesting that he wanted to avoid giving Trey’s return a “sad note.” However, she remains hopeful that the character could make an appearance, saying, “Maybe they run into each other… at an event or a restaurant. I think it would be amazing to have Kyle back on.”
While no plans have been announced, MacLachlan’s willingness to return keeps the possibility open for fans.
