She was born on May 29, 1988, in the city of Jalandhar in the Indian state of Punjab. She completed her early education at Shiv Jyoti Public School and graduated from Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya. She was very active as a student while studying in Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya and participated in debates, and received honours. Later she got enrolled in Apeejay College of Fine Arts and completed her Master of Arts in English.

Career
Jyoti’s acting career began in regional theatre and movies. She has also been a radio jockey. She has worked in many Punjabi films such as Ik Kudi Punjab Di, Munde Patiala De and Raula Pai Gaya and also in some Punjabi television series such as Kach Diyan Wanga and Akiyaan To Door Jayen Na. She got the role of Zoya in the Zee TV Hindi television series Qubool Hai, which 4 Lions Films produced and broadcast towards the end of 2012. For her role as Zoya, she won GR8! Performer of the Year?Female at the Indian Television Academy Awards and Best Début Actress at the Zee Gold Awards 2013. She also received two awards for the Best Jodi alongside Karan Singh Grover. Qubool Hai was relaunched in 2014, with her portraying both Sanam and Seher. In 2014, she came in 16th place in an annual poll conducted by the UK-based weekly publication Eastern Eye.
