
The Bombay High Court granted bail to actress Rhea Chakraborty on Wednesday. Whereas her brother Showik Chakraborty‘s plea was rejected. His bail is extended by two weeks. While the Chakraborty siblings were arrested by Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on September 8, for procuring and consuming drugs. The NCB has accused her of being an “active member of a drug syndicate”
The High Court has granted her bail under certain conditions:
- Deposit passport
- Cannot leave country
- Report every day for 10 days to Mumbai Police
- Furnish bail bond ₹ 1 lakh
- Cannot meet with any other witness
- Must inform Investigating Officer if she is going out of Greater Mumbai, give itinerary advance
- Report on the first Monday of every month before investigating agency, for six months
- Attend all dates in court unless prevented by any reasonable cause
- Not to tamper with evidence or investigation of the case
According to Indian Express, Justice Sarang V Kotwal who passed the orders said that that “(Rhea) is not part of the chain of drug dealers. She has not forwarded the drugs allegedly procured by her to somebody else to earn monetary or other benefits.” The judge said, “Since she has no criminal antecedents, there are reasonable grounds for believing that she is not likely to commit any offence while on bail”.
