Yellowstone wrapped up what felt like its final ride back in December 2024. That blood-soaked, emotional Season 5 finale left a lot of people stunned, satisfied, and still kind of heartbroken. Kevin Costner was already gone, the ranch looked doomed more than ever, and most fans figured that was it — the end of the Dutton story.
But things never stay buried in Montana for long.
Yellowstone Season 6 Renewal Status
No big press release screaming “Renewed!” has dropped yet. Paramount never officially called Season 5 the absolute last one either — they just let it feel that way. Behind the scenes though, word started leaking out last summer that serious talks were happening about keeping the main show alive.
The plan everyone keeps hearing is pretty straightforward: hand the keys to Beth and Rip. Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser have been the emotional center for years anyway. Fans lose their minds over those two, so it makes sense. The idea isn’t to pretend Kevin Costner never existed — it’s to move forward with the people still standing on the ranch.
As of right now (early 2026), nothing is 100% locked in. But the conversations are real, the money is being discussed, and Taylor Sheridan hasn’t walked away from his biggest cash cow. Most people close to the production seem to think something Dutton-related will keep going under the Yellowstone banner — maybe not labeled “Season 6” exactly, but close enough that it’ll feel like the next chapter.
Yellowstone Season 6 Release Date Speculations
If they greenlight it soon, late 2025 is the earliest realistic window. More likely though, we’re looking at 2026 — probably fall again to keep that big Yellowstone premiere tradition.
Why the wait? Sheridan’s juggling like five other shows, contracts take forever when millions are involved, and Paramount wants to space out all the spinoffs (The Madison, 1944, whatever else they cook up). They don’t want to flood the market and kill the hype.
Yellowstone Season 6 Expected Cast
Forget John Dutton. That door closed hard.
The real focus is on:
- Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) — she’s basically the lead now if this happens
- Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) — the guy everyone wants protecting the brand
Kayce (Luke Grimes) could pop in, especially since he’s got his own Marshals show cooking on CBS. Carter might get more to do. Jamie’s fate was left pretty open-ended, so who knows. The rest of the bunkhouse crew could return too — they’re fan favorites and cheap to bring back.
No full cast list exists yet because nothing’s officially happening. But Beth + Rip is the pairing everyone’s betting on.
Yellowstone Season 6 Potential Plot
Season 5 ended with the ranch under siege, John gone, Beth finally getting some version of justice, and Rip standing by her side like always. If they do more, it’ll almost certainly pick up right there.
Expect:
- Huge fights to keep the land (developers, politicians, maybe even family turning on each other again)
- Beth and Rip trying to hold everything together without John’s shadow
- More of that brutal, beautiful mix of loyalty, revenge, and frontier justice
- Probably some new outside threat that makes Market Equities look tame
Taylor Sheridan loves generational stories, so there’s a good chance we’d see them raising the next group of fighters while defending what’s left of the Yellowstone.
