XO, Kitty Season 2: Expected release date, plot, cast and everything else you need to know

Netflix made it official in June 2023, announcing the renewal of ‘XO, Kitty’ for Season 2.

Fans of the Netflix series “XO, Kitty” have reason to rejoice as the show is set to return for the second season. Jenny Han created the sitcom, which is a spin-off of the iconic “To All The Boys” film series and follows Kitty Song Covey’s adventure to find love in South Korea.

Season 1 premiered on Netflix on May 18, 2023, and now fans are excited to see what happens next for Kitty and her confusing love life. Here’s all we know about “XO, Kitty” Season 2.

Netflix announced in June 2023 that “XO, Kitty” would be revived for a second season. Given the show’s successful launch, the renewal came as no surprise. In its debut week, it was the second most-watched series in the weekly Top 10, with an astonishing 72.1 million hours watched.

However, the renewal occurred at an odd moment. It happened during a Hollywood writers’ strike, which has now ended, although talks between the Screen Actors Guild and the studios are still ongoing. This could cause delays in the production timetable.

Sang Heon Lee, who plays Minho in the series, offered some insight on the matter, noting that the strike made it difficult for the authors to complete the screenplay. He emphasised the need for time when navigating the scriptwriting process:

“The Writers’ Strike in Hollywood is going on, and because of the strike happening at the moment, it’s not exactly easy for them to just reach a conclusion on how to approach and write the script. It doesn’t happen like that, so until the strike is over, we have to wait until they all just figure out the conclusion. And then, after that, they’ll write a script.”

Now that the strike has ended, scriptwriting for “XO, Kitty” Season 2 is scheduled to begin, and if filming begins in 2024, the release date may coincide with the timeline of Season 1. The first season was shot from March to June 2022 in a variety of locations, including Seoul, Incheon Airport, and the Independence Hall of Korea in Cheonan. Following the same timeline, Season 2 might be delivered as early as 2025.

The cast of “XO, Kitty” consists of both new and familiar characters from the “To All The Boys” series. Given Season 1’s cliffhanger conclusion, most characters from the first season are likely to return.

Anna Cathcart, who plays Kitty Song Covey, will lead the return cast. A host of talented Korean actors join her, including Minyeong Choi as Dae Heon Kim, Gia Kim as Yuri Han, Sang Heon Lee as Min Ho, Yunjin Kim as KISS school principal Jina Lim, and Michael K. Lee as Professor Lee.

John Corbett and Saraya Blue, who play Dan Covey (Kitty’s father) and Trina (his girlfriend) in “To All The Boys,” are reportedly scheduled to return, imparting advice to Kitty.

There have been rumours of prospective cameos by Lana Condor (Lara Jean) and Noah Centineo (Peter Kavinsky) from the “To All The Boys” series, but nothing has been confirmed. In an interview with The Wrap, Lana Condor hinted at a possible return, saying, “I would definitely never say never. I mean, I think it’s pretty clear that I love the ‘To All the Boys’ world.”

The highly anticipated second season of “XO, Kitty” is slated to premiere on Netflix in 2025. The official summary for “XO, Kitty” begins the story: “Teen matchmaker Kitty Song Covey believes she’s mastered all there is to know about love.”
