The big news dropped at the Aniplex x Kadokawa Anime Festival: Rascal Does Not Dream of Santa Claus is set to hit Japanese screens on July 5, 2025. That slots it into the summer 2025 anime lineup, and fans are already buzzing. A trailer and poster came with the announcement, giving us a taste of what’s in store.

Who’s in the Cast?

The voice cast is one of the reasons this series hits so hard, and thankfully, most of our favorites are back. Here’s who’s confirmed to return:

  • Kaito Ishikawa as Sakuta Azusagawa, our sarcastic but big-hearted hero.

  • Asami Seto as Mai Sakurajima, the actress girlfriend we all adore.

  • Nao Touyama as Tomoe Koga, the spunky girl with a lot of heart.

  • Atsumi Tanezaki as Rio Futaba, the science nerd with a sharp mind.

  • Maaya Uchida as Nodoka Toyohama, Mai’s half-sister.

  • Yurika Kubo as Kaede Azusagawa, Sakuta’s sweet little sis.

  • Inori Minase as Shoko Makinohara, the mysterious girl who keeps popping up.

Season 2’s University Arc brings some new characters, and the voice cast for them is stacked:

  • Reina Ueda as “Miniskirt Santa,” who’s tied to the season’s big mystery.

  • Sora Amamiya as Uzuki Hirokawa.

  • Aya Yamane as Ikumi Akagi.

  • Konomi Kohara as Sara Himeji.

  • Manaka Iwami as Miori Mito.

These new voices should shake things up, and I’m excited to see how they fit into Sakuta’s world.

What’s the Plot About?

Rascal Does Not Dream of Santa Claus dives into the University Arc, starting with volume 13 of Hajime Kamoshida’s light novels. Sakuta’s out of high school now, starting university in Yokohama with Mai. The shift to college life means new challenges, new faces, and, of course, more Puberty Syndrome weirdness.

The story kicks off with Sakuta running into Miniskirt Santa, who says she’s Touko Kirishima and seems to be spreading Puberty Syndrome. Sakuta’s got to protect Mai, but things get messy when he finds out there’s more than one Touko Kirishima out there. He’s got to figure out who’s real, all while dealing with prophetic dreams, a mysterious online singer, and some creepy social media poltergeists. The trailer hints at the usual mix of funny moments, deep feels, and supernatural strangeness, with “Miniskirt Santa” adding a quirky but serious vibe.
