Who could have imagined it, huh? Somehow, Game of Thrones is back, and this time, it’s very fantastic. The fantasy television series transports us to an earlier time when the Targaryen family governed Westeros, around two centuries before the War of the Five Kings and the arrival of the Night King.

No other great house can compete with the House of the Dragon at this time because of its immense strength. But when he chooses Rhaenyra Targaryen as the successor over his son Aegon II, the weak King Viserys sows the seeds of his family’s destruction.

As two groups, the Greens and the Blacks competed for control of the Iron Throne in the first season, we observed how the royal family gradually turned against one another. What does the future hold for the fantasy series? Everything came to a head when Viserys died, and a civil war ensued.

House of the Dragon Season 2 Plot

The novel Fire and Blood, which served as the basis for the TV show, has greatly influenced our understanding of the House of the Dragon season 2 narrative. Where the first season left off, with Rhaenyra’s eldest son Jacaerys seeking to rally support for his mother, the second season is expected to follow up where it did.

The Targaryen civil war will then intensify as the Blacks and Greens battle it out for control of the Iron Throne as they rampage over the Riverlands. It’s impossible to anticipate where House of the Dragon will finish because we don’t know how many seasons the show will have, but if we had to guess, we’d say season 2 would conclude with Rhaenyra taking control of King’s Landing.

House of the Dragon Season 2 Cast

Season 2 will see the cast members of House of the Dragon who made it through the first season return. That features Rhys Ifans, Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, and other actors.

Below is a list of the key actors from House of the Dragon:

  • Emma D’Arcy as Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen
  • Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower
  • Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen
  • Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower
  • Eve Best as Rhaenys Targaryen
  • Fabien Frankel as Ser Criston Cole
  • Steve Toussaint as Corlys Velaryon
  • Sonoya Mizuno as Mysaria
  • Matthew Needham as Larys Strong
  • Tom Glynn-Carney as King Aegon II Targaryen
  • Ewan Mitchell as Aemond Targaryen
  • Harry Collett as Jacaerys Velaryon
  • Phia Saban as Helaena Targaryen

Paddy Considine and Elliot Grihault, who portrayed King Viserys and Prince Lucerys, respectively, and who both had characters die in season 1, are regrettably two performers who are unlikely to return.

While there isn’t currently any information on who will portray the lords of Winterfell, we do know that several new characters, including the Starks, will be introduced.

House of the Dragon Season 2 Release Date

The release date for House of the Dragon season 2 is unknown as of October 2022. However, the sophomore season’s production has already begun and is anticipated to begin in the summer of 2019.

Realistically, the second season of House of the Dragon won’t premiere until 2024, maybe as late as 2023, but that would be a terribly short turnaround for a show that needs a lot of post-production.
