Taylor Sheridan’s cowboy movie world will undoubtedly grow higher and outward, just as the hardy Dutton family in the smash blockbuster Yellowstone will continue to cling to their slice of Montana beauty. Only 1923, the Yellowstone prequel set in—you guessed it! —1923, with Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren as the local Dutton patriarch and matriarch, serves as the most recent example of this phenomena. The Paramount+ spin-off has so far been a huge success for the company; the launch in December 2022 was the streamer’s biggest premiere in the United States ever.
There isn’t much known about the future of the Roaring Twenties-set sitcom 1923 as it gets closer to the beginning of the Great Depression given that only a few episodes of its first season have already aired. (In fact, it’s unclear which of these 1923 figures is the grandfather of John Dutton III, played by Kevin Costner. Is it Jack Dutton, the kind, innocent boy? Spencer Dutton, a muscular safari hunter? Either way, if Indiana Jones is to be believed, there will be a lot more alleged “one-hour movies.”
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ford said of joining the Yellowstone prequel, “I had met with Taylor, who gave me a very brief outline of what he had in mind, and I went on faith and my experience with Yellowstone, 1883. He’s produced a work of incredible ambition, scale, scope [and] cinematic ambition. Taylor thinks of each of these episodes as a one-hour movie. And that’s the product that we’re getting.”
According to the most recent Paramount+ announcement, 1923 has been renewed for a second season, which means the programme will return from a break with new life.
As the Dutton family tries to survive historical occurrences including pandemics, a drought, and the echoes of the Prohibition era, the plot of 1923 season 2 is anticipated to continue chronicling the domain, corruption, and influence of the Dutton family.
As of this writing, the precise release date of 1923 has not received any official confirmation. However, despite the pandemic between seasons 3 and 4, Yellowstone has remained very constant at showing its seasons a year apart. Accordingly, we anticipate that 1923 season 2 will be successful and will be released by December 2023 or by January 2024.
