Shoojit Sircar on Amitabh Bachchan’s make-up in Gulabo Sitabo: It took 2 hours every day

Amitabh Bachchan will be seen in a never seen before avatar in Shoojit Sircar’s next film Gulabo Sitabo. The actor is playing the role of an old man in the quirky comedy for which it used to take him two hours every day to get his prosthetic make-up done. In an interview with Mumbai Mirror, Shoojit Sircar, director of Gulabo Sitabo, said that despite painful summer, which made it difficult for Amitabh Bachchan to get his prosthetics done and then shoot, the actor’s enthusiasm helped him a lot.

The director said that they didn’t think they would be able to pull off the look. He said, “The shoot was planned for summer and heavy prosthetics tend to get uncomfortable for an actor, especially for facial skin. It took two hours to create the look every day and getting it off was also tedious. But Mr. Bachchan was always enthusiastic and believed in our vision.”

Mumbai Mirror has quoted a source as saying, “When Shoojit showed him the look sketch, he was excited to work on the film, taking it on as a new challenge. He is required to sit down with the make-up team for hours before starting the shoot. An international crew has come on board to work on the appearance.”

The same source has been further quoted as saying, “During his breaks between takes, Bachchan sir would often walk around the quaint bylanes and mingle with the locals. Strangely, even as the people recommended the landmarks to visit in Lucknow, they had no clue they were interacting with the legend.”

The film, which also stars Ayushmann Khurrana, was shot in Lucknow. The shooting began on June 19 and it was wrapped up in a record time of just 40 days on July 29. Gulabo Sitabo narrates the love-hate relationship between the landlord and tenant.
