Shah Rukh Khan ignites backlash for harsh comment on Ram Charan – What really happened? READ

Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Idli’ Remark for Ram Charan sparked social media debate.

Shah Rukh Khan, the Badshah of Bollywood, is under fire on social media for allegedly making a derogatory slur about South Korean superstar Ram Charan a few days ago at a spectacular event held by the Ambanis in Jamnagar. The event has stirred discussion on social media, raising concerns about accountability and cultural sensitivity.

The three-day pre-wedding event for Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant was a star-studded affair. It was attended by people from various walks of life, including Bollywood celebrities, international artists, politicians, businessmen, and sports figures.

The guests blessed the pair, and several of them lit up the stage with explosive performances that went viral on social media.

In one such viral video, the three Khans—Shah Rukh, Salman, and Aamir—are shown executing the hook moves to several of their hit songs together. The video was a delight for their fans because seeing the superstars together is rare.

In reality, the trio performed on stage together at an event in 2014. They may not have appeared together in a film, but they made history at the Ambani event by dazzling the audience with their performance. While fans praised their performance, a number of social media users criticised Shah Rukh for his ‘racist’ statement about Ram Charan.

While on stage, the three Khans looked for Ram Charan to execute the hook step to the Oscar-winning song Naatu Naatu from the film RRR. At the time, Shah Rukh was looking for Ram Charan and asked him to join them on stage.

He kept calling out, “Where are you, Ram Charan?” Shah Rukh began speaking gibberish Telugu in an apparent humorous manner, including the word “idli” in his speech. While some found the situation hilarious, others accused Shah Rukh of being ‘racially insensitive’.

As netizens criticised Shah Rukh, Ram Charan’s makeup artist Zeba Hassan entered the chat and stated that she walked out following the event.

Zeba further added a video on her official Instagram story along with a caption saying, “‘Bhendi Idly vada Ram Charan kaha hai tu???’ I walked out after this. So disrespectful towards a star like @alwaysramcharan.”

The event has sparked outrage, with some social media users calling it ‘racially inappropriate’. Shah Rukh, a public figure with a large following, should accept responsibility for his words and deeds. Racial insensitivity, whether intentional or unintentional, can have harmful consequences.

Furthermore, in a diverse and multicultural nation like India, where we frequently celebrate unity through difference, such words can be very upsetting, not just to Ram Charan but also to his millions of fans and admirers.

As a result, expressing a genuine apology could indicate accountability and a commitment to promoting understanding and respect among all populations.

It should also be noted that Shah Rukh’s remark comes at a time when the Bollywood vs. South Indian movie controversy is ongoing. Celebrities have frequently spoken about the merger of the regional and Bollywood film industries, but when situations like these occur, the audience is forced to question the intentions behind their claims about inclusivity.

In fact, Shah Rukh recently teamed with Tamil filmmaker Atlee on Jawan, his biggest blockbuster to date. He has effectively entered a new market that is vastly different from the Hindi cinema industry.
