Shah Rukh Khan and Varun Dhawan were to join allies for Rajkumar Hirani’s Munnabhai Reboot?

Meanwhile SRK is working on YRF’s Pathan, his collaboration with Rajkumar Hirani to be announced soon.

Shah Rukh Khan is expected to work with ‘3 Idiots’ director Rajkumar Hirani after the former gets done with his film ‘Pathan’ by Siddharth Anand, which is to be released under Yash Raj Films banner. Where Hirani’s film was supposed to be a great comeback for Shah Rukh after his film ‘Zero’, the latter chose to work for ‘Pathan’ meanwhile the script of the film gets locked by Hirani. According to Bollywood Hungama, Rajkumar Hirani had approached SRK to play Munnabhai in his film ‘Munnabhai Reboot’ which could have been the third film of the franchise, however it was just a potential idea. “The first idea that Hirani bounced off SRK was a Munnabhai reboot with Shah Rukh Khan stepping in to the role of Munna and Varun Dhawan stepping into Circuit’s character. The script was an exciting preposition for SRK and Varun, as it was a parallel lead for both of them,” a source stated to Bollywood Hungama.

However the whole proposition went off when director Rajkumar Hirani and producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra separated around 2019, as the legal rights of the franchise remains with the producer who is planning to get a new director for the series. Hirani is currently working on his new script around comedy set in Punjab which has been delayed as the final draft of the script has not yet set. “It’s one of the most exciting scripts for him as it’s a human tale of the protagonist. The humour is derived from character traits and the screenplay, like most other Hirani films”, as put by a source from Bollywood Hungama.
