Rashmi Rocket respresents the struggle of all female athletes, not only Dutee Chand story: writer Aniruddha Guha

Aniruddha Guha explained how Rashmi Rocket is not about Dutee Chand, it represents all female athletes.

Sports seem to be one of the most favorite subjects of writers and filmmakers in Bollywood. Stories about the struggle of athletes, overcoming various barriers give hits and blockbusters to this industry.  They not only inspire us but also illustrate the unjust struggles that athletes have to go through to move forward.

Rashmi Rocket seems to be another. The director Akarsh Khurana highlights relatively unknown issues through the story and script of the movie. it’s a tale about archaic and unjust gender verification testing and hyperandrogenism. It stars actor Taapsee Pannu, Abhishek Banerjee, Priyanshu Painyuli, and Supriya Pathak. This movie demonstrates the orthodox practice of Gender Testing that exploits female athletes. This is a sensitive issue that is amazingly portrayed in the movie. The filmmakers turned a complex issue into something comprehensible and accessible to everyone.

As mentioned by news 18, Annirudhha Guha admits to having moved through different genres and forge the screenplay into something understandable to the viewers. “I remember when Akarsh first narrated the idea to me, at one point he said the words ‘gender test’, and my immediate response was “I am doing this!” The prospect of writing a sports film, but also something never shown before in out cinema, was too good to resist,” said Guha.

He was further asked about the similarities that the movie seems to have with Dutee Chand’s story. Guha denied and stated that it is not based on a specific person. He further mentions that Dutee is a national icon, there is more to a person than one thing that took place in their life. Rashmi Rocket represents all the female athletes that had to go through such archaic and unjust gender testing practices which might’ve left a toll on their social and psychological entities.
