Karan Johar, on Tuesday, made a huge announcement, the director confirmed the direct-to-digital release of his production venture, Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl. The biopic of Indian Air Force pilot Gunjan Saxena, the film stars Janhvi Kapoor in the lead role.
The filmmaker shared an emotional teaser on his Twitter account, which is voiced by Janhvi. Janhvi is narrating the story of the film’s subject, in the teaser, she says, “Gunjan Saxena, Lucknow ki ek chhoti si ladki, jiska ek bohot bada sapna tha – badi hoke pilot banne ka sapna. Lekin jo duniya ye sochti thi ki ladkiyan gaadi nahi chala pati, kya wo Gunjan ko plane udaane deti? Uss deewani ko duniya ki parvah nahi thi. Bas apne papa par bharosa tha, jo kehte plane ladka udaaye ya ladki, usey pilot hi kehte hain.”
“1999 Ki Kargil War mein Gunjan Saxena ne Cheetah helicopter udaya, desh ki raksha ki aur war zone mein jaane wali pehli woman Air Force officer banke history badal di. Aaj Indian Air Force mein 1600 se zyada women officers hain jo Bharat ki har beti ko apne sapne pure karne ka haunsla de rahi hain. Main aap aur aapko family ko Gunjan Saxena ke sapne ka hissa banne ke liye invite karna chahti hun,” she says further.

Directed by Sharan Sharma, who has also co-written the script with Nikhil Mehrotra, the movie is bankrolled by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Zee Studios. The film features Vineet Kumar Singh, Angad Bedi, Pankaj Tripathi and Manav Vij in pivotal roles.
Not only The Kargil Girl, but Akshay Kumar’s Laxmmi Bomb might also have a web release on Hotstar Disney Plus. As per the reports, Akshay and his team is in talks with the online streaming site that has offered them a good deal to have the rights of the film’s worldwide release. The film was slated to release non-May 22.
