Released this year for Pongal, Thala Ajith’s action-packed drama, Thunivu managed to officially certify the renowned actor’s entry into the exclusive Rs 200 crore club. It clashed at the box office with Thalapathy Vijay’s, Varisu.
Initial box office results showed that Thunivu had a stronger start than Varisu. Vijay and Ajith’s star power was able to propel their individual flicks to strong box office results.
For Ajith, his biggest career hit in terms of box office to date was, Viswasam with 195Cr gross. Despite criticism, Thunivu fared well and became Ajith’s most successful film to date. The movie is the first in Thala’s career to pass the 200-crore mark.
The action comedy, co-starring Smuthirakani and Manju Warrior was highlighted by Ajith’s outstanding screen presence and H Vinoth’s fast-paced narration. These elements succeeded in giving the movie a strong beginning. Ajith’s performance in the first week of Thunivu was his finest ever. The action comedy made 90Cr in Tn during its first week of release, and after one week, it had made close to 110Cr nationwide.
While Thunivu set a new record for Thala Ajith, it is currently streaming on Netflix in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi and has received a good amount of positive feedback from the audience.
