Aamir Khan gets introduced by Steven Spielberg to Tom Hanks, as the ‘James Cameron of India’

On the set of Bridge Of Spies, starring Tom Hanks and Mark Rylance, Aamir met Steven Spielberg, who introduced him to Tom Hanks as India’s James Cameron.

It’s not every day that Steve Spielberg compliments you. That is exactly what happened to Aamir Khan while he was attempting to make Laal Singh Chaddha. On the set of Bridge Of Spies, starring Tom Hanks and Mark Rylance, Aamir met Steven Spielberg. He was looking for Hanks and Spielberg because he wanted the remake rights to Forrest Gump, which had been refused for a long time by the original film’s director, Robert Zemeckis.
When Aamir met Spielberg and Tom Hanks, he was startled to learn that they had both seen 3 Idiots three times. Not only that, but Spielberg referred to Aamir as India’s James Cameron when introducing him to Tom Hanks. The true ice-breaking took place during this encounter when Aamir respectfully requested that Spielberg speaks with Robert Zemeckis.

Aamir was told by Speilberg that his bond with Zemeckis was similar to that of a father and son. In addition, the Hollywood legend stated that father and son don’t always get along. Nonetheless, Spielberg revealed to Aamir why Zemeckis refused to meet with him. The director of Forrest Gump and the Back To The Future films apparently didn’t want to say no to Aamir. Aamir, never one to give up easily, persisted and was eventually able to get the remake rights to Forrest Gump from producers Paramount Pictures.
