The seventh kid of Robert De Niro has been revealed to be his.
The 79-year-old spoke up about parenthood in an interview with ET Canada that was released on Tuesday, May 9 while promoting the upcoming comedy movie About My Father.
“I know you have six kids,” the interviewer remarked, to which the actor quickly corrected her by saying, “Seven, actually.”
“I just had a baby,” he revealed.
“I mean, there’s no way around it with kids. I don’t like to have to lay down the law and stuff like that. But, [sometimes] you just have no choice,” the Godfather star explained.
“And any parent, I think, would say the same thing. You always want to do the right thing by the children and give them the benefit of the doubt but sometimes you can’t.”
The actor is now the father of seven children, a spokeswoman for De Niro later told the publication, though it’s unknown who the mother is.
“Imagine being 51 (as Robert De Niro’s eldest child is) and getting a new baby sibling! wild!!” wrote on Twitter user in reaction to the news. “Moral of the story, never give up!” added another.
Children born to De Niro and his first wife, American actress Diahnne Abbott, are son Raphael, 46, and daughter Drena, 51. From 1976 till 1988, the couple was wed.
With his former partner, model Toukie Smith, he had twin boys, Julian and Aaron, who are now 27 years old, in 1995.
With his ex-wife Grace Hightower, De Niro also has a son named Elliot, 25, and a daughter named Helen Grace, 11.
