Joshua Jackson has found humor amid personal loss, joking about taking furniture from the set of Doctor Odyssey after his California home was destroyed by wildfires earlier this year. The actor, 46, spoke about his situation in a recent interview with People, quipping that the set’s seating arrangements were the most comfortable he had ever experienced on a production.
“Since I find myself not owning any furniture, by the time the show is over, it would be nice to take a couple of those things to my new house,” he remarked lightheartedly.
Jackson, best known for his role in Dawson’s Creek, had confirmed in January that the Topanga home where he spent his childhood—later purchased as an adult in 2001—had been completely destroyed. The fire forced him to find temporary housing for his four-year-old daughter, Juno, whom he shares with estranged wife Jodie Turner-Smith. Turner-Smith had filed for divorce in October 2023.
Speaking on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon earlier this month, Jackson reflected on the devastation, noting the surreal nature of seeing his home reduced to ashes. Recalling his first visit to the site after the fire, he described standing in front of the smoldering ruins and realizing that what remained no longer felt like his home, but merely a pile of burned debris.
Despite the loss, Jackson expressed optimism about rebuilding. He said he was looking forward to creating a new home, one that would hold fresh memories with his daughter. “It’s not how I would have chosen to do a remodel, but, in some ways, I’m actually excited about the process,” he shared, emphasizing that the new house would be designed for Juno, with every part of it reflecting their shared story.
While the loss of a home is deeply personal, Jackson’s ability to find light in the situation—both through humor and a forward-looking mindset—underscores his resilience.
