Jimmy Kimmel reveals he was advised against reading Donald Trump’s criticism post on Oscar’s stage

The war of words between Oscar host Jimmy Kimmel and former president Donald Trump began on stage from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on Sunday. And in a post-ceremony backstage interview, the host shed light on the moment being quickly incorporated into the broadcast.

Towards the end of the 2024 Oscars ceremony, Kimmel read out a post on social media by Trump that criticized the former as a host of Oscars. He hit back at the criticism by saying, “Aren’t you past your jail time?” which erupted laugh and cheer from the audience.

Post the award ceremony, Kimmel spoke to his fellow ABC talk show hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos during the post-show Live special. He told the duo that he went against advice from some he spoke with backstage, who advised him against reading Trump’s rant aloud during the ceremony.

Sunday marked the TV personality’s 4th time hosting the Academy Awards ceremony.
