Over the weekend, during Super Bowl LVIII, the trailer for the highly anticipated two-part movie musical event Wicked made its debut.
The movie stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo as Glinda and Elphaba, respectively, in the trailer as Erivo can be heard singing her chilling rendition of the ballad “Defying Gravity.”
The character Elphaba, played by Erivo, can be heard saying in the footage, “Something just takes over me… And when it does, bad things happen.”
The audience have been introduced to the director Jon M. Chu’s world of Oz with a trailer displaying kaleidoscope of color. It features some massive filed of flowing flowers, the Emerald City and fantastical landscapes showcased throughout.
The character Glinda, portrayed by Grande can be heard assuring Elphaba to not to be afraid. “It’s the Wizard who should be afraid of me,” replies Elphaba stoically.
The movie also stars Jeff Goldblum, Oscar- winner Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Bailey, and Bowen Yang.
Wicked: Part 1 will hit the theatres on November 27, while the sequel will release in late 2025.
