After being rushed to the hospital on Thursday, Lisa Marie Presley, a singer and the only child of Elvis and Priscilla Presley, passed away at the age of 54. Later, Thursday night, Presley’s 77-year-old mother confirmed her death.

In a statement, Priscilla Presley wrote, “It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us. She was the most passionate, strong, and loving woman I have ever known. We ask for privacy as we try to deal with this profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers. At this time there will be no further comment.”

According to TMZ, Presley was taken to the hospital from her Calabasas, California, home following a claimed cardiac arrest. In a message released when the news initially surfaced, her mother pleaded with followers to remember her daughter in their prayers.

In a second statement, Presley’s family expressed their sorrow and devastation over Lisa Marie’s tragic death. They humbly appreciate everyone’s love, support, and prayers and ask for privacy during this extremely difficult period.

Two days before being admitted to the hospital, the artist attended the Golden Globes celebration in Los Angeles with her mother as a member of the cast of Baz Luhrmann’s critically praised biopic Elvis. For his portrayal of the King, actor Austin Butler was awarded best actor in a drama film that evening.

Butler’s performance was complimented by Presley, who admitted: “I really didn’t know what to do with myself after I saw it. I had to take, like, five days to process it because it was so incredible and so spot on and just so authentic.”

She was the owner of her father’s well-known Memphis house, Graceland, and was born in 1968. When Elvis passed away in 1977 at Graceland, she was nine years old. Her own music career began with a 2003 debut album “To Whom It May Concern.” It was followed by 2005’s “Now What,” and both hit the top 10 of the Billboard 200 album chart. A third album, “Storm and Grace,” was released in 2012.
