American Idol to pay tribute to Mandisa in musical way next week

American Idol is set to pay tribute to Mandisa, who was a season 5 contestant on the show.

On the episode set to air on Monday, April 29, on ABC, the show will remember the 2005 Idol alum.

“Mandisa was an adored icon on American Idol and in the music industry,” said the singing competition show in a statement. “She had become a platinum- selling artist and had won several Grammys for her music. Her passing has left everyone on the show heartbroken, and we extend our deepest condolences to her family.”

On Sunday’s show, Ryan Seacrest took a moment to announce the special show, which will be taking place next week.

“We wanted to take a moment to honor a dear member of the Idol family who we sadly lost this week – Mandisa,” stated Seacrest. He added that she was an inspiration for the show, and will be celebrating her with a special musical tribute.

Mandisa passed away at the age of 47 at her home in Nashville on April 18.

She loved Jesus and used her unusually extensive platform to talk about Him at every turn, says David Pierce, K- Love Chief Media Officer.

Following her death, fellow American Idol alum Jennifer Hudson also shared  message on social message remembering the late singer.
