According to an old interview that’s surfaced online, one of the many A-list actors offered the role of Tina (which was finally played by Rani Mukerji) was Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. It’s known that the role of Tina Malhotra was originally offered to director Karan Johar’s childhood friend and author Twinkle Khanna, who also happens to be the inspiration behind the character. After Khanna declined, the role was also discussed with the likes of Karisma Kapoor and Raveena Tandon before it ultimately came to Mukerji.

In an interview, Aishwarya had said that she was a newcomer, but she was compared to all the senior actress. Aishwarya said, “If I had done the film, I would have been teased by saying that look, Aishwarya Rai is doing what she used to do during her modeling days. Like straightening her hair, wearing mini poses in the camera. Anyway, at the end of the film, the hero comes to the lead actress. If I had done ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, I would have had to face unnecessary criticism.”
