Shilpa Shetty, who is visiting Mangalore with her mother and children, witnessed the ‘Daiva Kola’ (a vibrant ceremonial performance unique to Karnataka’s Tulu-speaking districts).
In an Instagram post, she stated that she is teaching her children about her cultural history. She also posted a video of the entire experience.
Shilpa and her two daughters, Viaan and Samisha, watched the film ‘Kodamantaya Daiva Kola’ in Mangalore. In a letter, she stated that she is returning to her roots, and that her children were ‘awestruck’ by the performance.
She wrote, “Tulunadu da Ponnu (Girl from Tulunadu), back to my roots. Introducing my children to my cultural heritage. Attended the Nagamandala and the traditional Kodamantaya daiva Kola in Mangalore. My kids were awestruck and no matter how many times I see it, it always fascinates me to see the power and faith followed with such devotion (sic).”
What is Daiva Kola?
Daiva Kola, an incredible ceremonial spectacular from Karnataka’s Tulu-speaking districts, is deeply rooted in local culture and traditions. This ceremonial activity mixes dance, drama, music, and religious devotion to produce a vibrant display of cultural expression. The performance is held in front of a group of villagers who actively participate, asking divine intervention in a variety of personal or community difficulties. Daiva Kola fosters spiritual connection while also strengthening social cohesion and identity throughout communities.
Rishab Shetty’s ‘Kantara’ was one of the few films that introduce the ‘Daiva Kola’ concept to the seashore. The film conveyed a heavenly and emotional story from India’s southern coastline, affecting millions of hearts. The producers are developing the film’s prequel.
Shilpa Shetty last appeared in ‘Sukhee’.
