Bharat Ratna recipient Lata Mangeshkar’s last rites were performed at Shivaji Park, Mumbai at 6:30 pm. Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated flowers and bowed down to the veteran singer.

The veteran singer passed away at the age of 92 on Sunday. Her body was cremated at the Shivaji Park in Mumbai. The funeral procession began from her residence to Shivaji park where the last rites were performed.

Lata Mangeshkar Ji was honoured by wrapping her body in the tricolour flag.

Firstly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated flowers and bowed down to the veteran singer. He met Lata Ji’s family members and expressed his condolences.

Then, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, wife Rashmi Thackeray and son Raj Thackeray also joined hands and paid their homage.

From politicians to sportspersons, from actors to singers, everyone were present at the Shivaji Park.

Various celebrities and politicians were present to pay their last respects, such as Shah Rukh Khan, Shraddha Kapoor, Shilpa Shetty, Sachin Tendulkar, Ajit Pawar, Piyush Goyal, Javed Akhtar, Supriya Sule, Anuradha Podwal, Shankar Mahadevan, Ravi Kishan, Anurag Thakur, Ranbir Kapoor.

Soldiers gave shoulder to Lata Ji’s body wrapped in Indian flag to pay national tribute. National tune of honour was played. All the soldiers from army, navy and air force paid salute.

The 92-year-old singer was hospitalized in Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on January 8 after she tested positive for Covid-19 with mild symptoms.

The nation will mark national mourning and the flag will be half-mast from February 6 to 7. February 7 is declared as holiday by the Maharashtra government.
