A long time ago, Rani Mukerji and Abhishek Bachchan’s romance gained so much media attention. They took things too seriously back then, but both of them soon decided to break up. Many of the allegations surrounding their split said that Jaya Bachchan was the reason her son Abhishek ended his relationship with Rani Mukerji.
Following the release of films like Yuva and Bunty Aur Babli, Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukerji gained popularity as a couple. The audience cherished their on-screen combo. Their chemistry was altered by Rani and Abhishek’s forthcoming film, Laga Chunari Mein Daag.
Not only was the film a box office failure, but many reports in the media claim that it had a detrimental effect on their relationship as well. An argument broke out between Jaya Bachchan and Rani Mukerji during filming. Since Rani was Bengali, Jaya Bachchan had previously approved of the relationship; however, following the reported dispute, things took a different turn. Jaya Bachchan stated many things that Rani Mukerji and her family found unacceptable when her family visited their home to talk about marriage.
Many believed that the two would maintain a friendly connection despite their parting, given their kind of interaction both on and off-screen. But it was evident that everything had ended bitterly when Abhishek Bachchan chose not to invite Rani to his wedding.
Rani was not invited to Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai’s wedding. In response to a question regarding the same, Rani Mukerji stated, “Only Abhishek can throw light on that. The truth is that if a person chooses not to invite you to their wedding, you realise where you stand with the person. You may be deluded and think you are friends but maybe the friendship was only restricted to being co-stars on the sets.”
She continued, “It doesn’t matter. It became very clear and evident that we were only co-actors and not friends. Moreover inviting someone to a wedding is a personal choice. Tomorrow when I decide to get married, I will choose the handful of people I want to invite. A lot has been blown out of proportion. Poor guy has been married for many years, we should all move on. I will always have fond memories of working with him.”
In every interview, Abhishek Bachchan said he didn’t have any issues with Rani. He added that she has always been a wonderful co-actor and friend. Abhishek added that he would love to collaborate with her if they were given a strong story.
The Equation Between Rani Mukerji and Aishwarya Rai
Even though Aishwarya Rai has consistently received praise from Rani Mukerji and has been referred to as a wonderful actor, there have always been allegations that the two were never friendly. Rani Mukerji’s casting as Aishwarya Rai’s replacement in Shahrukh Khan’s Chalte Chalte was one of the causes of this.
