Sonakshi Sinha recently got candid over her experience during her early days in Bollywood, when she faced harsh comments about her body image. During an interview with Hauterrfly, the actress opened up about an incident where she was denied a lead role simply because she was considered overweight.
Upon being asked if body shaming comments really affected her, Sonakshi recalled the one incident which truly shocked her. “I remember there was this one time where I really broke down. I came home crying because they did not give me a lead role because I was overweight. They said, ‘No, you won’t look good in this role, so you just play a small, insignificant part.'”
Sonakshi further added that post that incident, she turned to her Maasi for comfort. She recalled sitting on her aunt’s lap and questioning, ‘Why has God made me like this?’
Meanwhile, on the work front, Sonakshi was last seen in horror comedy Kakuda. She also made waves with her performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, which has been confirmed for second season.
Beyond her career, Sonakshi also stepped into a new phase of her life, as she tied the knot with Zaheer Iqbal, last year.
