The Mumbai Police have summoned actor Ranveer Singh for interrogation later this month in connection with a charge filed against him for sharing nude images of himself on social media. On August 22, the 37-year-old actor will be summoned to the Chembur police station to “join the inquiry.”

On Friday, officers from the city’s Chembur police station went to the actor’s home to issue him with a summons to join the investigation but were told he was not in the city. The lawsuit was opened when a city-based non-governmental organisation submitted a complaint (NGO).

The NGO said that the actor offended women in general and insulted their modesty by uploading naked photos on social media networks. The actor’s viral photo series for Paper magazine drove the internet into a frenzy late last month. The photograph was a homage to ’70s pop legend Burt Reynolds, who famously appeared naked for Cosmopolitan magazine in 1972.
