One year of Missing Irrfan; Director Shoojit Sircar opens up

Director Shoojit Sircar remembers Irrfan Khan.

Shoojit Sircar opened up about working with Irrfan Khan in what was one of his last films. He says Irrfan was like a free bird who just wanted to fly. “He was that – very pure in terms of his craft, artistry and his conduct. That purity in his thoughts made him special as a person,” he added.

Shoorjit also opened up about how he had a great understanding of the late actor. He said that they could understand each other without having to utter a single word. The director also said that after Piku, he wanted Irrfan to do all his films.

Shoojit Sircar remembers the one time Irrfan wanted to wear a chequered shirt for a scene in Piku.
“He and the costume in charge for the film, Veera, picked it. They were very happy with it. Irrfan also jumped in to convince me, saying ‘Yeh pehenne do na dada…’. They planned and persuaded me into saying yes. When I see that frame today, he looks so happy, almost like a child getting the toy he wanted,” Shoojit recalls.

“I believe in the magic of life that he believed in,” Shoojit added.
