As a warrant was issued against him by a local court, actor Rakhi Sawant’s brother was detained in Mumbai in connection with an earlier case of cheque-bouncing, police said on Tuesday.
On Sunday, Rakesh Sawant was put under arrest. He was presented to the Andheri metropolitan magistrate court, which ordered him to detention until May 22, according to a police officer. In 2020, a businessman accused Rakesh Sawant of bouncing a cheque, which led to the police taking him into custody. He was eventually granted conditional bail with the requirement that he return the complainant’s money, but the officer said that he never did.
”Rakesh Anand Sawant is arrested after a non-bailable warrant was issued against him by Andheri metropolitan magistrate’s court. He was produced before the court which remanded him to judicial custody,” he said.
A businessman filed the case against Rakesh in 2020, and three years prior, Rakhi’s brother was even detained before being freed on bail. He was given bail by the court in the check-bouncing case on the condition that he pay back the merchant the money, which he did not do.
