From Sushant Singh Rajput’s Instagram tampering to Bhushan Kumar and Marina Kuwar’s #MeToo controversy, here are the HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK (Part 1)

1. Sushant Singh Rajput death, funeral and everything related to it: After the sudden demise of the talented Kai Po Che actor, many celebrities took to social media to express their grief and shock on the issue. Sushant’s close friend, Kriti Sanon wrote a heartfelt message for her late friend that read, “ Sush.. I knew that your brilliant mind was your best friend and your worst enemy.. but it has broken me completely to know that you had a moment in your life where Dying felt easier or better than Living. I so wish you had people around you to get you past THAT moment, i wish you hadn’t pushed the ones who loved you away.. I wish i could have fixed that something which was broken inside you..I couldn’t..I wish so so many things….A part of my heart has gone with you.. and a part will always keep you alive., Never stopped praying for your happiness and never will..” 

On the other hand, Bollywood superstars like Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan and many others posted their condolences on social media. Everyone came up with their own side of the story and their own theory on how the actor was pushed to the edge that made him take such a drastic step. 


2. Nepotism debate: While the industry was in shock and was grieving the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, his fans and some ‘outsiders’ in the industry fueled the debate of nepotism in the industry. #BoycottKaranJohan and #BoycottSalmanKhan started trending on the internet. All time torch bearer of nepotism, Kangana Ranaut also came forward with her side of the story about Sushant’s suicide and termed it to be a murder. On the other side, many B-Town celebrities who have family connections in the industry, such as Sonakshi Sinha and Alia Bhatt, came forward with their side. 

Sonam Kapoor, finds herself at the center of many controversies, came forward with her view, saying, “Yes I’m my father’s daughter and yes I am here because of him and yes I’m privileged. “That’s not an insult, my father has worked very hard to give me all of this. And it is my karma where I’m born and to whom I’m born. I’m proud.” The actress was trolled by many netizens for her statement, which finally resulted in her unabling the comment option on her social media handle. 

A case was filed against Sonam Kapoor, Karan Johar, Alia Bhatt, Tiger Shroff and Ekta Kapoor in Patna for harbouring nepotism and murdering a talent like Sushant Singh Rajput. KAran Joahr and Alia Bhatt lost out on millions of social media fans while Kangana Ranaut gained followers on her social media. 

3. Sushant Singh’s Instagram Account Being Used after his death: Former actress and BJP MP Roopa Ganguly pointed out that Sushant SIngh Rajput’s Instagram account is being used after his death! She shared a video where she asks, ‘how is it possible?’ The actress further demanded a CBI probe into the matter at the earliest. 

In connection to that, Sushant Singh Rajput’s family friend wrote to the Mumbai cops saying that Sushant’s friend and initial flatmate Sandip Ssingh could be using the late actor’s Instagram in order to delete crucial information. He further alleged that Sandip might be doing this to save his own Bollywood career and he urged the Bombay cops to probe into it. 

4. Music Mafia Questioned, Bhushan Kumar’s name surfaces, T-Series baron linked with Marina Kuwar #MeToo case: As the film industry was burning in the nepotism debate, Sonu Nigam’s video ignited the ‘Music Mafia’ debate in the music industry. The celebrated singer came forward with a video on his social media handle in which he had appealed to music companies, without taking names, to be a little kind towards new artistes entering the industry, saying otherwise more people will commit suicide. He had also mentioned in his first video that currently two companies rule the music industry and referred to them as ‘Mafias’. In the video, Sonu mentioned that he had the video which contains evidence about Marina Kuwar’s allegations of #MeToo against Bhushan Kumar and why she withdrew them.

Many singers, like Adnan Sami, Monali Thakur and Alisha Chinai, stood up with Sonu Nigam on his ‘Music Mafia’ remark. On the other hand, days after Sonu Nigam’s second video, Bhushan Kumar’s wife Divya Khosla posted a angry response disclosing that she and her husband have received rape & death threats.
