Uorfi Javed, who aspires to live in a democratic country rather than a Hindi or Muslim state, has questioned the advantages of renaming places. She soon added that she does not practise Islam or any other faith.
She uploaded a news story from May 2022 on Thursday afternoon that speculated about a renaming of Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. Uorfi posted a screenshot of the 2022 news story and said, “Tell me about the advantages of doing this. A democratic Rashtra is where I want to stay! neither Muslim rashtra (the Muslim nation) nor Hindu rashtra (the Hindu nation).”

The news item covered the Twitter responses to a post by Adityanath Yogi, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh. Sheshavatar Bhagwan Laxman ki pawan nagri Lucknow mein aapka swagat aur abhinandan (Welcome to the city of Lord Laxman) is how the CM greeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a tweet.
This week, Brajesh Pathak, the deputy chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, brought up the subject of Lucknow’s name change and noted that it is “clearly known that Lucknow’s name originally was Laxman Nagri.” The government may then work on it, he continued.
She followed it up with a disclaimer and wrote, “Before the Hindu extremists start attacking me let me tell y’all , I do not follow Islam or any religion as a matter of fact . I just don’t want people to fight because of their religion.”
In a much-discussed online exchange last month, Uorfi and Kangana Ranaut reacted to Uorfi’s claim that “art should not be divided by religion.”
