Actor Vineet Raina is one of the most loved actors from TV. He has been a part of many hit TV shows and is now all geared up for his next venture on an OTT platform. Yes, well, the actor is all set to debut on the OTT space with Ullu’s next titled Kasak. The web series also stars Minissha Lamba and Ihana Dhillon. It is based on the infamous rape that occurred with a nurse of a hospital that sent shockwaves down the spines of many! Kasak is produced by Vibhu Agarwal, CEO, Ullu Digital.
Vineet spoke exclusively to us, not just about the series he is a part of but also about how the OTT content is way more engaging than the content that we get to see on TV. He was pretty brash in bashing the TV content and stated point-blank that if the TV producers didn’t ponder on the grim situation, and conjure up content that is new and is at par with the multifarious OTT platforms, TV will soon be a passé.

He revealed, already many shows are going off air and that his own show is in doldrums! “I think this is the time when the content creators should just mull over it. Many shows are going off air, Naagin 4 and other shows too are on the verge of ending. My own show, Meri Gudiya too is pretty dicey now, all the big shows are going off-air. I think this is the time for all the GEC producers and channels to think about television.” He stated.
Further speaking about how the TRP systems deteriorated, the actor revealed that no TV show touches more than 2.5 ratings on the TRP charts and that is the benchmark for a hit show these days! “The TRPs today at the most are 2.5 to 3, if the shows touch these ratings, the producers declare it to be a super hit, which is an utter shame! My own show called Maayka was an extremely content-driven show, we used to take up the TRPs to 7!” Quipped he.
The actor further stated that there is no reason to say audiences don’t want to watch content on TV because nowadays, they are using a firestick to do just that and therefore the TV producers have to look for a way to give the OTT content a tough competition, “We have audiences, get the content. Once that is there, everyone who watches content on the small mobile screen, they will once again come back to TV. You bring good content because the audiences today are even using a firestick to watch content on TV. If, after the lockdown also, the show makers bring the same kind of shows on TV, it will just vanish from the scene. I mean, no one is so decked up while at home as they show in these serials! This is the time to give competition to OTT platforms. When these web platforms were coming in the light, the biggest competitor was TV. They all sought a way to compete with television content. And they didn’t even have to do much hard work, it was pretty easy for them and they aced it. Therefore, now, the ball in their court, now television has to look for ways to make sure their content is better than the OTT.” He concluded.
