Dharma Productions, one of India’s largest largest production and distribution companies, has entered into a partnership with the mega production house – Viacom18. The previous sources reported that Dharma and Karan Johar were planning to collaborate with South based production house Lyca Productions, but the deal was not closed.
According to a recent update by Bollywood Hungama, the deal is finalised for all the forthcoming projects of Dharma to be distributed by Viacom18.
“In what could well be called as one of the biggest acquisition of recent times, Viacom 18 has acquired the distribution rights of Dharma Productions’ entire slate of films”. The deal came through when talks between Dharma and Lyca Productions turned sour. Karan Johar was said to be initiating talks with Fox Studios before its merger with Disney, and then with Lyca Productions.
“Post the deal with Lyca turning sour, Viacom quite literally came in at the right time. In fact, some in the trade circles are stating that Viacom rescued Dharma Productions at just the right time.” stated a source from Bollywood Hungama.
Dharma Productions has tons of projects lined up in the near future including Sooryavanshi, Bhramastra, Takht and Dostana 2.
