Celebrating 22 years of Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham: Kajol remembers Aryan Khan’s “debut”

Karan Johar’s Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham starred Kajol with Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, and Kareena Kapoor.

On the 22nd anniversary of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kajol and Karan Johar took a trip down memory lane. The film Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, aka K3G was released on December 14, 2001. Karan and Kajol posted video montages from K3G on Instagram. Kajol shared a couple of anecdotes. She mentioned how the movie marked Aryan Khan’s on-screen debut. Aryan was the child in the movie that everyone remembers running up to embrace Jaya Bachchan.

In Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, directed by Karan Johar, Shah Rukh Khan’s kid made his screen debut. He portrayed the younger version of Shah Rukh Khan, his father. He shared sequences with Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan. Aryan’s “debut” aside, Kajol additionally disclosed how, during the initial days of K3G’s filming, director Karan Johar collapsed and fainted on set because of dehydration.

Kajol wrote in her caption, “22 years to K3G. Another acronym but yes another long-lasting memory !!! Yash uncle actually renovated and made new makeup rooms in Filmistan studios permanently just for the shooting of this film because even with the vanity vans it was not going to be enough for this gigantic starrer! Karan Johar collapsed and fainted on set because of dehydration in the first few days… it was really really hot! And this was Aryan Khan’s debut on screen! It was also I think my first comeback (not sure about this part though) too many comebacks ago. And the first and only time I stood in front of the pyramids and truly felt them with my soul… so yes this was a truly HUGE film in every which way, in life and cinema!”

Karan Johar shared a montage of Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan, and Kareena Kapoor from K3G on Instagram Reels. He captioned the photo, saying, “My annual reminder of ‘It’s all about loving your family’…and my audience, who have kept the spirit of K3G alive even 22 years later. Eternally grateful to the magnificent and magnanimous cast – Amit ji, Jaya ji, Shah Rukh bhai (brother), Kajol, Duggu (Hrithik) and Bebo (Kareena) and all other special people in the cast and crew for just making this journey the most memorable one! Thank you today and always.”

22 years ago on this day, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, a story of love and grief, brought together some of the biggest actors in India. The film provided us with a lot that has lasted the test of time and is still one of Karan’s biggest hits, from Rahul and Anjali’s (Shah Rukh and Kajol) love story to Kareena aka Poo’s unapologetic self-love.
