Movie Chehre released on 27th August, starring Amitabh Bachchan, only managed to gross ₹40 lakh on its first day. According to a Hindustan Times report, this is even less than the Punjabi film Chal Mera Putt 2 first day collection in Ludhiana city.
Chehre unlike other recently released films was exclusively released in theatres. This gamble amid a global pandemic concluded in the soft opening of ₹40 lakh on the first day. This was even less than the first-day collection of Akshay Kumar’s Bell Bottom, which collected ₹2.75 crores.
The film was recently in news for Amitabh Bachchan acting in the movie without any salary. He was so impressed and intrigued by the story that he agreed to do the film without any salary, but producer, Anand Pandit said recently that because of the tax issues, the actor is added and billed as ‘friendly appearance’. This isn’t the only movie the megastar did for free, but he also worked in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Black without any salary.
On Black’s 12th Anniversary, 102 Not Out actor took to social media and said, “I had just wanted to work with Sanjay, after seeing all the other works he had done… And when the opportunity came it was quite overwhelming. I did not take any salary for the film… Just being a part of such an enterprise, was sufficient fees!”
He recalled further and said, “At the premiere when we all saw the film, there were just those tears of joy within me, and of course the fact of having Dilip Saheb in the audience was a childhood dream coming true. When the film got over, he stood outside the hall, held my hands and just looked into my eyes. It was, what I could have allowed, to last for a lifetime!”
Amitabh Bachchan also creatively added to the film with the title track, which he gave lyrics and performed. This movie despite struggling to make a good collection in the box office has earned praise from fans with a review of 5.8 on IMDb.
