Akshay Kumar opens up on the never-ending controversy over his Canadian passport

When his films began to underperform at the box office, Akshay Kumar pondered migrating to Canada.

Akshay Kumar confessed that he retains his Canadian citizenship despite paying taxes in India. Akshay was chastised in 2019 for applying for Canadian citizenship and failing to vote in the Lok Sabha elections. Following the failure of his films, the actor stated that he was considering relocating to Canada.

This is not the 1st instance when Akshay has spoken openly about his citizenship. Previously on Koffee With Karan 7, Karan Johar questioned Akshay if he gets ridiculed online, to which Akshay said that he doesn’t go online often. “They write about Canada at most.” “Which I don’t mind,” he said. When Karan said, “The trolls call you Canada Kumar,” Akshay said, “Yeah, Canada Kumar, Okay, call me that.” In a recent interview, Akshay said that he is and will always be an Indian.

“A few years back, my films were not functioning,” Akshay told Lallantop. After about 14-15 films that didn’t succeed, I decided to relocate and work elsewhere.” He said that it was one of his Canadian buddies that suggested he relocate. “While many people migrate there for employment, they are still Indians.” So I also reasoned that if fate isn’t on my side here, I should do something about it. “I went there, applied for citizenship, and got it,” Akshay explained.

He altered his attitude after regaining success in India. “I’ve got a passport.” What exactly is a passport? It’s a document that allows you to travel from one nation to another. Because I am an Indian, I pay all of my taxes here. I have the option of paying it there as well, but I prefer to pay it in my own country. I am employed in my home country. Many individuals express themselves, and they are free to do so. To them, I would just answer, “I am an Indian, and I will always be an Indian,” he added.
