10 Actors who are backed by their fathers in the Bollywood

This father’s day let’s have a look at which actors entered the B-Town through the help of their fathers. The list reveals the names of the actors whose fathers held the gate, while they stepped into the film industry.

The recent backlash against the practice of nepotism was fuelled by the death of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Many in the industry claim that the actor was forced to the edge by the big muscles in the industry. While the film fraternity has had a divided stand on the issue, it is no secret that the Bollywood industry is dominated by actors who have made it via their family’s connections. Let’s take a look at 10 of them:

Ranbir Kapoor is one of the highest-paid new-age heartthrob actor and son of star actor Rishi Kapoor. The actor entered the industry as an assistant director on the films Aa Ab Laut Chalen (1999). His acting debut was opposite Sonam Kapoor in Saawariya (2007) a Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s romantic drama . Uptill now he has acted in 26 movies since his debut, with Jagga Jasoos being his last release.

Sonam Kapoor made her first appearance in 2007, opposite Ranbir Kapoor in Saawariya, which was a Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s romantic drama. Sonam in an interview with Hindustan Times, had said that her father and actor Anil Kapoor worked hard to build his career and to not take advantage of that would be disrespectful towards him. Sonam has acted in 21 films till now, and has won an Indian National Film Award for the film Neerja.

Shahid Kapoor, son of Pankaj Kapur, was cast as a background dancer in a few films in the 1990s. His debut film was back in 2003 with a lead role in the romantic comedy Ishq Vishk for which he won a Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. His last release was Rangoon, alongside Ranaut and Khan.

Alia Bhatt, daughter of director-producer-screenwriter, Mahesh Bhatt, made her debut with a Karan Johar movie, Student of the Year in 2012. The actress has worked in 22 movies since her debut. She was also seen in a few films including the 1999 film Sangharsh as a child actor. Her last movie was opposite Ranveer Singh, Gully boy.

Varun Dhawan, son of David Dhawan, film director who has done more than 40 movies, made his acting debut in 2012 with Karan Johar’s Student of the Year. Prior to his acting debut he worked as an assistant director for Karan Johar on his drama My Name Is Khan, starring Shahrukh Khan. The father-son duo also worked together in the 2014 comedy drama film Main Tera Hero, in which Varun was in the lead role. Varun was last seen in Kalank.

Sonakshi Sinha, daughter of Shatrughan Sinha, star actor in the 1970s and lead in hit films such as Kaala Patthar and Kalicharan, made her debut in the industry in the year 2010 opposite Salman Khan in Abhinav Kashyap’s Dabangg which was a Blockbuster. Before her debut she designed the costumes for the film Mera Dil Leke Dekho in 2005. Sonakshi has acted in more than 30 films, her last film being Mission Mangal.

Arjun Kapoor, son of film producer Boney Kapoor, who has over 37 years of experience in Bollywood, made his debut in the year 2012 with Ishaqzaade, directed by Habib Faisal and opposite Parineeti Chopra. Before his debut, he worked as an assistant director on his father’s productions No Entry (2005) and Wanted (2009). The actor has acted in 17 films so far and his last appearance was in Mubarakan.

Tiger Shroff, son of Jackie Shroff who has starred in more than 200 films since the 1980s, started his career in the industry in the year with Heropanti. Tiger has played lead roles in many films. The actor has acted in 8 films so far and his last appearance was in War.

Shruti Hassan, daughter of Kamal Haasan, who is an iconic National Film Award winning Tamilian actor who has appeared in more than 200 films, entered the industry in 2009 with Soham Shah’s Luck, opposite Imran Khan. She also appeared as a playback singer at the age of six in the 1992 Tamil film Thevar Magan. Shruti Hassan has done a total of 49 films in Bollywood and Kollywood. Rocky Handsome was her last appearance co-starring John Abraham.

Shraddha Kapoor, daughter of Shakti Kapoor, who is known for playing villain and comedy roles in films till 1990s, started off her career in the industry in 2010 with director Leena Yadav and Amitabh Bachchan as her co-actor. Starring in 19 films so far, Shraddha Kapoor last appeared in Chhichhore, a comedy-drama about college life, co-starring late Sushant Singh Rajput.
