A bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar and Dinesh Maheshwari adjourned the case to June 3 while observing a similar situation last year prompted internal marking instead.

The bench of the Supreme Court also said, “You are free to take whatever decision. But there is hope expressed by the petitioner that the policy adopted last year can be adopted this year. If the government is departing from last year’s decision then gives tangible reasons.”

The Court further said, “They will resume the hearing on June 3, after taking of the decision of the central government regarding the cancellation of the CBSE and ICSE class 12 board exams 2021, which are speculated to be conducted in July.”

It also added that delays in the declaration of result will ultimately hamper one semester of the aspiring students as admission cannot be confirmed until the result of class XII is declared.

The petition filed by advocate Mamta Sharma asked the court to devise an objective methodology to declare the result of Class XII within a specific time frame.
