President Ram Nath Kovind speaks on Implementation of National Education Policy 2020 in Higher Education

National Education Policy’s aims are to reorient the education system to meet the needs of the 21st Century

At the visitors’ Conference on ‘Implementation of National Education Policy 2020 in Higher Education,’ President Ram Nath Kovind addressed educators from many prestigious institutions including Vice-Chancellors of all Central Universities and Directors of IITs, NITs.

At the conference, the President praised the National Education Policy for its aim and vision and said, “Higher education institutions have a greater responsibility of making India a global knowledge superpower. The quality standards set as a benchmark by these institutions would be followed by other institutions.”

He said the aim of the NEP is to increase inquisitive and critical thinking amongst students. He said that we have to work towards restoring the great learning that happened during the times of Takshashila and Nalanda.

He also addressed the fact that so far, the ration of female students to male students has been lopsided especially in higher and technical education. Addressing this He said, “Such gender disparity in higher education should be corrected. It would be the role of head of institutions that would have an impact on the teachers and students and hence the heads of organizations should take an active interest in implementing the policy.”

He said that the National Education Policy’s aims are to reorient the education system to meet the needs of the 21st Century.
