Delhi High Court directs DU to commence physical examination for final year students from September 14

The Delhi High Court on Monday directed Delhi University to begin physical examinations for final year students from September 14, asking them to collect data of ‘persons with disability’ (PwD) category students who were unable to take the online Open Book Examination that commenced on August 10. The court also said that sufficient time should be given to them for travel and asked DU to work out the modalities of stay and transport of the students who would sit for the examinations.

The court had asked whether the examination can be held earlier to which Mr. Sachin Dutta, representing DU had said that time is required to physically accommodate and arrange venue as well.

Senior advocate S K Rungta, appearing for one of the petitioners National Federation of Blind said that the state is obliged to take responsibility in certain circumstances and that many PwD students who are out of Delhi will have to face difficulty in taking the examination under such a pandemic situation to which court has ordered the varsity to provide all the facilities to the students.

Regarding the issue raised by B B Gupta, one of the members of the Grievance Redressal Committee, which was set up to address the problems faced by students during online examination as to how the password for the e-mail address has only been shared on Monday morning, the bench conveyed its annoyance and directed DU to handover all the data related to the grievances by Monday evening through virtual mode.

The court also directed the UGC to issue an advisory on the provisional certificate that students who have applied for Post-Graduation in private universities need as soon as possible, clarifying their stand.
