DRDO successfully test-fired Prithvi-2 ballistic missile from the coast of Balasore in Odisha. The Prithvi-2 is a 9-meter ballistic missile that is nuclear-capable and it can destroy any target in the range of 250 Km carrying a 1-tonne warhead. The missile is India’s first indigenous surface-to-surface strategic missile. It was a night trial on Friday evening by the Strategic Force Command.

A few weeks ago, the first missile trial was conducted by the DRDO and this is the 2nd consecutive and successful trial of Prithvi-2. Defence Research and Development Organisation has carried out this 11th missile test in 40 days.

Prithvi-2 is an extended version of Prithvi missiles, that are short-range ballistic missiles with nuclear capabilities. Prithvi-1 has a range of 150 km and now after the successful test-fire of Prithvi-2, India has extended the attacking range to 250 km.

However, after tensions with China on Line of Actual Control, DRDO has conducted various missile tests Including BrahMos Extended Range Supersonic Cruise Missile which can strike the target at a distance of over 400 km, and Laser-Guided Anti Tank Guided Missile (ATGM). The government of India has launched the Atma Nirbhar Bharat Mission and Make in India Mission which aims that India should be Independent in all the sectors and India should be the Manufacturing Hub for the entire world.

The DRDO is a major manufacturer of advanced weapons for the Indian army, earlier it has successfully tested India’s first-ever Anti-Radiation Missile (Rudram-1) which can destroy any RADAR and prevents aircraft and fighter jets from RADAR detection.
