PM Modi takes a swipe at Congress saying, “There was an era when Defence Interests were compromised”. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the newly built Atal Tunnel, the longest highway tunnel in the world, built at an altitude of 3,000 meters at Rohtang. Along with PM Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Army chief General MM Naravanea, and CDS General Bipin Rawat were also present during the inauguration today.

PM Modi indirectly blamed Congress for compromising the defence interests of the country. He said that the protection of our country is the most important thing. “Nothing more important to us than protecting country, but there was an era when defense interests were compromisedAtal Ji laid the foundation stone of the approach road of this tunnel in 2002. Till 2013-2014, progress was made only on 1,300 meters of this tunnel. After 2014, the project progressed at an unprecedented pace.” Modi in a swipe at Congress.

“Connectivity has a direct connection with development. Connectivity in border areas is directly related to security issues,” he added.

Modi said that the Atal tunnel will give new strength to India’s border infrastructure. It is an example of world-class border connectivity. There have been demands to improve border infrastructure, but for a long time, such projects either couldn’t get out of the planning stage or get stuck midway.

This tunnel is dedicated to the soldiers guarding our borders & those living near border areas: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh at Rohtang.

Many other important projects were treated in the same way as the Atal tunnel. The strategically important Daulat Beg Oldi airstrip in Ladakh remained closed for 40–45 years. I don’t want to go into details as to what was the helplessness and the pressure behind it: PM Narendra Modi.

PM Modi said that the tunnel is a masterpiece made by Indian soldiers, and this will be a case study for young engineers. “I want the Ministry of External Affairs to invite some universities for case studies on this tunnel. The world should know how our jawans can do such a wonderful job in limited resources.” PM Narendra Modi said.
