Six held for phoning as Ajit Pawar’s staff, extorting builder

Pune, Jan 14 (UNI) Six persons were remanded into police custody till January 17 for allegedly extorting a reputed builder while impersonating as staff of Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, informed the Crime Branch here on Friday.

Quoting the complainant, it further said that the accused used to call the victim via the app ‘Fake Call’ and identify themselves as Mr Pawar’s PA.

This fraud continued for the past days and in between they also managed to extort Rs two lakh from the builder.

As a result, their demands grew. Subsequently, they not only asked the victim for Rs 20 lakh ransom but also threatened to settle land disputes in favour of their accomplices.

This was the tipping point for builder’s patience and he finally approached the Bundgarden police station.

Based on the complaint, a case was filed under relevant IPC sections as well as provisions of the IT Act against the accused, stated Crime Branch Inspector Sailesh Sankhe.

Further probe into the matter is underway.
