
On Saturday, some 100 people of African ancestry surrounded a police team in South Delhi’s Raju Park neighbourhood, clashed with them, and liberated Nigerian nationals who had been held by the anti-drugs squad and were being transferred to the police station due to visa expiration.
A Narcotics Cell team had arrived to Raju Park at 2:30 p.m. for the expulsion of overstaying foreign nationals, and had picked up three Nigerian residents whose visas had expired.
Meanwhile, a mob of more than 100 African-Americans surrounding them and obstructing the police activity. Two of the three imprisoned managed to flee during the turmoil, but the police were able to apprehend one of them, Philip, once more. Four more people were apprehended from the area by a team from the Neb Sarai Police Station and Narcotics Cell.
In reprisal, 150 to 200 people of African ancestry assembled at the police station once more, but the officers managed to keep the situation under control. They are now pursuing legal action in this matter.
