Bineesh Kodiyeri on Wednesday was interrogated for more than 11 hours by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday in connection with the sensational gold smuggling which involved 30kgs of gold smuggled from UAE to Thiruvananthapuram through diplomatic channels and Bengaluru drug haul cases.

This came in after Anoop Mohammed, an accused in the Bengaluru drug racket case gave a statement to the Narcotics Control Bureau in which he mentioned his name. Bineesh has also told the media that he knew Anoop for long but was not aware of his connections to the drug mafia.

“NCB Bangalore has been requested to share details of the case (with the Enforcement Directorate). One of the high profile persons alleged to be connected to the case is being interrogated,” a submission by ED to the court on Wednesday read.

Although Bineesh was let off after the questioning officials according to some sources say that he might be called again for further interrogation.

Bineesh is the son of CPI(M) Kerala State Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, the ruling party. Meanwhile, the opposition has come up taking the issue as a political weapon against Kodiyeri and the party.

Earlier, during a rape and cheating case which is pending against Kodiyeri Balakrishnan’s elder son Binoy Kodiyeri in Mumbai, he had said that “parents can’t be blamed for a grown up’s doings”.
