34 year old man slits his own throat in-front of Police in Chennai

The senior officer mentioned that the head constable informed the police station of the incident and had rushed Bhagyaraj to a hospital. He was rushed to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital in his own auto-rickshaw after being given first aid. However, the man was declared dead before reaching the hospital.

On Monday, a 34-year-old drunk man slit his own throat with a liquor bottle after he had been confronted by a police officer for drinking alcohol in the open in Chennai’s Tirumullaivoyal area. However, the man died on the way to the hospital.

Bhagyaraj was the identity of the drunk 34-year-old man, who was an auto driver and resident of Ayyapan Nagar at Ayapakkam in the Thiruvallur district.

On Monday afternoon a head constable, Santhosh, at the Tirumullaivoyal Police Station, was on a round in Ayapakkam when he saw 4 men drinking in the middle of the bushes which was 50 metres away from an auto-rickshaw parked on the road opposite of a private school.

The senior Police officer said that Santhosh, the head constable, asked the 4 men to leave the spot, and two of them left immediately. However, Bhagyaraj and a friend of his, Pradip, did not leave the scene, both of them drunk. Santhosh went closer to them and asked them to leave the spot but Bhagyaraj denied doing so and threatened the head constable by saying that he would harm himself if he came closer. The senior police officer added that when the head constable raised his voice again, then the man, Bhagyaraj suddenly broke the liquor bottle and allegedly slit his neck by the broken liquor bottle.

The case has been registered by the Tirumullaivoyal police. The police had mentioned that the deceased has a wife and two children.
