A 13-year-old girl has been set on fire allegedly by her employer’s son in Telangana’s Khammam district after she opposed his attempt to rape her. She has suffered 70 per cent burn injuries and is currently battling for her life at a hospital.
The incident happened on September 18 but came to light only on Monday when the girl narrated her ordeal to her parents after regaining consciousness and improvement in her condition. The girl was working as a domestic helper.
The victim told her parents “When I was in the room, he came inside and asked me to sleep with him. When I opposed, he forced himself upon me and I struggled a lot. Then he tore my clothes, set me on fire and fled”
According to the police, the 13-year-old girl is a native of Pallegudem village in Khammam who was working when the accused asked her to sleep with him.
The accused himself brought the girl to the hospital though, the police are looking into why the hospital management did not inform them about the girl.
The hospital told the police that they had a notion that it was a case of the woman accidentally getting burnt.
The accused has been pulled in by the police and a case under Sections 376 (punishment for rape), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 307 (attempt to murder), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) of IPC along with Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 has been lodged.
