Tesla’s CEO finally fulfilled his promise to sell ‘Tesla Tequila,’ 2 years after teasing the efforts on Twitter. The product quickly vanished off the virtual shelf, in spite of keeping a limit of 2 bottles each and making the product available only in certain US states. Packaged in a lightning-shaped bottle, it is produced by Nosotros Tequila, a spirits brand in Southern California.
The product was in the making for 2 years and was earlier popularized as ‘Teslaquila’ by Musk via Twitter on April Fool’s Day, which eventually led many of his followers to believe that it is a Twitter joke. However, his efforts to trademark the drink in October of that year were frowned upon by Mexico’s tequila producers. Mexico’s Tequila Regulatory Council had at the time argued the “name ‘Teslaquila’ plays around with the word ‘Tequila’ and Tequila is a protected word.”
This is not the first time Tesla is in the news due to its choice of merchandise. Earlier this year, the company released mini red gym shorts on its website, in a playful hit back at investors who had “shorted” Tesla, or bet that its stock would drop, with a pair costing 69.420 dollars. Tusk had grabbed eyeballs earlier this week when he disclosed how close the automaker was from bankruptcy at one point, while when it was working to ramp up production for its popular Model 3 sedan from mid-2017 to mid-2019.
These struggles have not left the slightest mark on its shock price however as it soars up more than 420 percent. Last month, the automaker also reported strong earnings, announcing record profit for the third quarter and a vision to maintain its goal to sell 500,000 cars this year.
