TCS CEO and MD Rajesh Gopinathan resigns leaving K Krithivasan as the appointed CEO-designate

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) CEO and Managing Director Rajesh Gopinathan has announced his resignation. The CEO designate has been named as K Krithivasan.

Rajesh Gopinathan, the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), has quit “to pursue other interests”. The company announced the leadership shift and revealed that Gopinathan is leaving TCS after more than 22 years of service.

TCS stated in an exchange filing, “We wish to inform you that Mr Rajesh Gopinathan (DIN: 06365813), Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Tata Consultancy Services Limited (“the Company”) has tendered his resignation, which will be effective from the close of business hours on September 15, 2023.”

K Krithivasan, President and Global Head of TCS’s Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) Business Group, has been named the CEO-designate, effective March 16, 2023, according to the IT major.

“He shall take over as the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of the Company in the next financial year, subject to shareholder’s approval, effective date of which would be intimated in due course,” it continued.

N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, TCS stated, “Over the last 6 years, Rajesh has provided strong leadership as the MD & CEO and has laid the foundation for the next phase of TCS’ growth with significant investments in cloud, agile and automation to help clients accelerate their transformation. I am deeply appreciative of Rajesh’s enormous contribution to TCS. I wish him the very best for the future.”

Gopinathan expressed his satisfaction with his 22-year employment with TCS in his final statement.”It has been a pleasure working closely with Chandra, who has mentored me through this entire period. The last six years of leading this iconic organization have been most enriching and fulfilling, adding over $10Bn in incremental revenues and over $70Bn increase in market capitalization.”

“Having worked with Krithi over the last two decades, I am confident that he is best positioned to take TCS to greater heights along with the leadership team. I will be working closely with Krithi to give him all the support that he needs,” he added.

The business stated that Krithivasan joined TCS in 1989 and added that, “during his long tenure, he has held various leadership roles in delivery, customer relationship management, large program management and sales”.

Krithivasan serves on the boards of TCS Iberoamerica, TCS Ireland, and the TCS Technology Solutions AG supervisory board. He graduated with a master’s degree in industrial and management engineering from IIT Kanpur and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Madras.
